"I began writing music before I could even play an instrument," he said. "I'd get these ideas for songs and work them out until they were finished. It was my favorite hobby. It became more than a hobby when Schiazza formed his first real band: the hard-rock outfit, Zoy. "When John (Deola) & I formed Zoy in the mid-90's, the songwriting process was the best part; just seeing a song morph from idea to actual band track was the most exciting thing I'd ever been a part of. It was then when songwriting ceased to be a hobby and became a passion." Schiazza soon branched out on his own, releasing his first solo album in 2006. "Two Months in a Cloud was huge for me, because it was the first time I'd put together a collection of completely original music for me to sing," he said. "It really was a long-time coming, and it felt great." From there, the songs began to pour out. Schiazza has released nine solo albums since then, plus three with his current band, The Possessions, and one with country singer Kristina Fetkovich, for a total of 13 albums in the last three years. And there is more on the way. "I hit a writing groove around 2006 and it's lasted me to date," he said. "It was mostly inspiration, but also years of practice and trial & error. That's why I find it to be so satisfying...because it's been my life." |
